Through the interplay of these various sources of light and sound, magic will emerge. Amidst a winter snowscape, a public plaza in downtown Montreal is glimmering like a jewel thanks to a public art installation comprised of kaleidoscopic prisms. As they pivot, they create polychromatic effects accompanied by an ambient soundtrack. Installation art developed in the 20th century. The prisms are mounted on bases containing light projectors and speakers. The installation is one cohesive work of art. The prisms, measuring two metres tall, are made of polycarbonate panels laminated with a dichroic film that transmits and reflects every colour of the visible spectrum, varying with the position of the light source and the observer. They transmit and reflect every color on the visible spectrum. The interactive art installation features 25 pivoting prisms. Visitors are able to interact with the installation by turning the giant prisms, causing mesmerizing transformations of countless colours. (WBAY) - Prismatica is back at Titletown. Installation artists are less focused on presenting an aesthetically pleasing object to viewers as they are enfolding that viewer into an environment or set of systems of their own creation. Glimmering under natural light by day or atmospheric lighting by night, the prisms create overlapping transparencies, patterns and reflections on their surroundings. Installation art champions a shift in focus from what art visually represents to what it communicates. This immersive installation, comprised of 50 pivoting prisms, transforms the Place des Festivals into a colourful ice palace – a giant kaleidoscope through which visitors can wander and observe the Quartier des Spectacles through a new lens. These installations must engage visitors and should invoke a feeling or mood during both day and night. The spinning prisms reflect lights and can be spun manually to create brilliant and colourful effect. The Prismatica art installation got its official introduction Thursday night along the street in the heart of downtown where it will be for the next four weeks. Artists are tasked with creating installations which celebrate and enhance the experience of Winter. Twenty-five clear spinning prisms now line Front Street in downtown Belleville. Prismatica is an installation for the 2014 Luminothérapie Competition in Montreal.
